Authorities had responded to the scene of a crash at around 2:32 a.m., in the 8200 block of Sunset Boulevard near Roxbury Road in West Hollywood.

A driver of a Tesla X had lost control and crashed into the center median, a metal lamp post and a tree. The Tesla then hit the Pink Taco restaurant patio and caught fire.

The driver managed to exit the vehicle before it became engulfed in flames. The female passenger of the Tesla, however, was trapped inside.

Paramedics also rushed two women who had been in the backseat to a nearby hospital with unspecified injuries.

In the Tiktok below, with footage immediately after the accident. the situation was still unclear, and the reporter was mistakenly told it was the male driver who was stuck inside the vehicle and died.

@nbcla Fiery Tesla Crash in Hollywood: “A ball of fire." One person was killed and three others were hurt in a fiery Tesla crash on Sunset Boulevard in the Hollywood area overnight. The crash happened right outside Pink Taco. Two women were ejected from the Tesla in the violent crash. The Model X SUV was the only vehicle involved in the crash, and authorities said the SUV was just traveling way too fast down Sunset. Updates are on #NBCLA ♬ original sound – NBCLA

* There is an unconfirmed report that this was an Uber ride, though that may not square with the police saying that the injured driver was immediately picked up by a car that had been following the Tesla. One may conjecture that there were two Uber rides going in the same direction, though that seems unlikely.
