(L.A.) Modesto Perez, 61, Died on a Trail

Los Angeles County is reporting the death of a 61-year-old Latino male that occurred on a trail in Shadow Hills.

The coroner’s office identified the man as Modesto Perez.

Formal pronouncement of death was made on Sunday.

At around 10:44 a.m., LAFD reported that their Air Ops located a mountain biker in a remote location and lowered aeromedics via the hoist. They tried providing advanced lifesaving care to the patient in severe medical distress, including CPR. At the time, he was thought to have been 50 years old.

Burbank Fire Department was also on scene with a ‘gator’ (side by side) making their way on the ground as LAFD firefighters continue to hike and use a 4WD truck towards the patient. LAFD Air Ops picked up a third aeromedic to lower and assist with the patient care in the efforts to stabilize the patient enough to conduct a hoist operation.

Unfortunately, at 11:38 am, LAFD reported that despite exhaustive lifesaving efforts, the patient could not be revived and LAFD Aeromedics completed the protocol for the determination of death.
