(L.A.) Mayo Cruz, 41, Died While Stealing Copper Wire

Los Angeles County is reporting the death of a 41-year-old Latino male who passed away at an underground location outdoors.

The coroner’s office identified the man as Mayo Cruz. Born in L.A. County.

Manner of Death: Accident

Cause of Death: Electrocution

RIP MAYO CRUZ (June 13, 1984 – January 4, 2026)

Formal pronouncement of death was made on Sunday.

The decedent was apparently electrocuted while trying to steal copper wiring at a construction site in Pomona. The structure was a strip mall that was being demolished.

In January 2019, a similar death happened in Koreatown when 30-year-old Camilo Aguilar tried the same thing. At the time, Aguilar’s cause of death was given as electrocution and thermal burns.
