LAFD Bulletin

Firefighters tamed a duplex inferno, but sadly, one man was found dead in the charred structure.

In the late evening hours of Monday, March 14, 2022, Los Angeles City Firefighters were alerted at 11:03 PM to a structure fire on the 200 block of South Avenue 52 in the Highland Park neighborhood of Los Angeles. Thirty firefighters quickly arrived to find a duplex well involved with fire and threatening three other nearby structures. Firefighters began their attack from the exterior, in “Defensive Mode,” and skillfully protected all adjacent threatened structures. Continuous hose streams from all sides allowed crews to knock back the flames and ultimately extinguish the blaze in 40 minutes from the time of alarm.

As firefighters moved inside for final extinguishment of remaining hot spots, a search of the premises revealed that, tragically, one man was killed in the duplex fire. Firefighter-paramedics immediately determined that he was beyond medical help. Per protocol, the incident commander called for the assistance of Fire Investigators from LAFD Arson/Counter-Terrorism Section, along with LAPD and the Coroner.
