Manner of Death: Accident

Cause of Death: Acute Propofol Toxicity

RIP KEGT VILDOR (June 10, 1979 – October 16, 2024)

Formal pronouncement of death was made on Wednesday at 7:18 a.m.

Ruling by the deputy medical examiner was publicly disclosed in mid-January, presumably after the results of tox screening had come back from the lab. This was classified as an accidental, i.e., unintentional, drug overdose.

Propofol is an intravenous anesthetic and sedative drug commonly used in medical settings. The drug’s sedative properties can be attractive to those seeking an escape from stress or emotional pain.

Abuse of propofol often results in death due to the rapid onset of unconsciousness and apnea following injection.

Many propofol-related deaths are the result of accidental overdose or intentional suicide, particularly among healthcare professionals with access to the drug.

Out of over 160,000 death records made public by the county’s medical examiner since 1999, propofol has been mentioned only about a dozen times, most often in cases of suicide.
