(L.A.) Julio Cardoza, 33, Died After Being Shot by DJ Quik’s Son

Los Angeles County is reporting the death of a 33-year-old Hispanic male that occurred in a hospital.

The coroner’s office identified the man as Julio Cardoza.

Manner of Death: Homicide

Cause of Death: Multiple Gunshot Wounds

David Marvin Blake Jr., the son of rapper DJ Quik, would be convicted of second-degree murder for this shooting.

UPDATE: In February 2026, he was sentenced to 15 years to life in state prison for the crime.

At the time of the shooting, Blake Jr. was a liaison for then-Compton City Councilman Isaac Galvan. He also pursued a rap career under the name D. Blake and appeared on his father’s 2014 album, The Midnight Life.
