RIP JUAN ROJO GUERRERO ( December 18, 2025)
Formal pronouncement of death was made on Thursday.
Note that the government investigator indeed spelled the decedent’s surname as Guerreo and not the common spelling Guerrero.
Rojo was shot by LAPD in Hollywood after he called them to say he was in distress.
Police were dispatched at 3:35 p.m. to an apartment building in the 1400 block of North Bronson Avenue after Rojo called 911, saying he was experiencing a mental health crisis, was armed with a knife, and threatened to harm himself and anyone who approached his door.
When officers arrived and announced their presence, Rojo abruptly opened the door. As officers attempted to reposition and communicate further, he ran toward them, armed with a kitchen knife.
An officer fired a weapon, while another simultaneously discharged a less-lethal 40mm foam launcher.
Rojo was struck by the gunfire. He was transported to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead. No one else was injured during the incident.
A kitchen knife was recovered at the scene and booked as evidence. The incident is under investigation by the LAPD’s Force Investigation Division, which is standard protocol for all officer-involved shootings. Body-worn camera footage of the incident has been released by the LAPD.
