(L.A.) Juan Medrano, a Baby, Died in a Hospital

Los Angeles County is reporting the death of a Latino male that occurred in a hospital.

The coroner’s office has identified the infant boy as Juan Medrano.

Manner of Death: Accident

Cause of Death: Intrauterine Fetal Demise

Other Significant Conditions: Maternal Methamphetamine Use and Acute Funisitis

Formal pronouncement of death was made on Wednesday at 11:07 a.m.

Intrauterine fetal demise is the medical term for a stillbirth.

Funisitis is an inflammatory process that involves the umbilical cord.

The decedent’s mother was abusing meth while pregnant. This is considered an accidental, i.e., unintentional, drug overdose.

Note that the government investigator had initially given the decedent’s name as Baby Boy Guerra.
