Benazepril is a medication used to treat high blood pressure, heart failure, and diabetic kidney disease.
Benazepril can cause a serious adverse reaction called angioedema, which involves swelling of the face, lips, tongue, and airway. Although ACE inhibitor–induced angioedema is not a classic IgE-mediated allergic reaction, it can occur suddenly, lead to airway obstruction, be fatal, and is sometimes documented as “anaphylaxis” in medical records.
