(L.A.) John Simmons, 65, Died in a Shelter

Los Angeles County is reporting the death of a 65-year-old Black male that occurred in a hotel/shelter.

The coroner’s office identified the man as John Simmons.

Manner of Death: Accident

Cause of Death: Arteriosclerotic Cardiovascular Disease

Other Significant Conditions: Effects of Cocaine, Fentanyl and Methamphetamine

RIP JOHN ELANDO SIMMONS (February 11, 1958 – December 7, 2023)

Formal pronouncement of death was made on Thursday at 9:45 p.m.

Ruling by the deputy medical examiner was published on March 10, presumably after the results of tox screening had come back positive from the lab. This is considered an accidental, i.e., unintentional, drug overdose.

Local government authorities had the decedent’s body cremated on January 8 the following year.

Note that there are multiple decedents named “John Simmons” in public records.
