(L.A.) Joan Rodriguez Aguilar, 16, Died in a Hospital

Los Angeles County is reporting the death of a 16-year-old Latino male that occurred in a hospital.

The coroner’s office identified the teenage boy as Joan Rodriguez Aguilar.

Manner of Death: Accident

Cause of Death: Blunt-Force Trauma

Formal pronouncement of death was made on Saturday morning.

The decedent was in the 10th grade at Rancho Cucamonga High School. For some reason, he was out riding a motorized scooter without a helmet at 1:36 a.m. on Milliken Avenue when he was hit by a Volkswagen. He was taken to Pomona Valley Hospital.

Under the California Vehicle Code, riders under 18 require a bicycle helmet on motorized scooters (e-scooters up to 15 mph). A 16-year-old without a helmet violates this law, facing fines up to $250.​
