(L.A.) Jesse Rodriguez, 23, Died in a Hospital

Los Angeles County is reporting the death of a 23-year-old Latino male that occurred in a hospital.

The coroner’s office identified the young man as Jesse Rodrguez [sic].

Manner of Death: Homicide

Cause of Death: Stab Wound of the Chest

RIP JESSE RODRIGUEZ (October 3, 1999 – September 7, 2023)

Formal pronouncement of death was made on Thursday at 6:16 p.m.

The decedent was stabbed with a hunting knife by a supposedly crazy man as they were aboard a Metro B (Red) line train.

When the train arrived at the Pershing Square statioin in downtown L.A., transit officers saw him bleeding profusely, clutching his chest. He was rushed to an area hospital, where he later succumbed to his injury.

The suspect, who was arrested on Saturday and charged with murder, is a 31-year-old black man named Randy Lamale Nash, also born in L.A. County.

Nash is being held at the Pitchess Detention Facility in Castaic on 2,000,000 dollars’ bail. His next court date is on 2025 December 16. Nash has a long rap sheet that includes multiple assaults over the years, as well as rape in 2017.

* Note that the government investigator indeed spelled the decedent’s surname as Rodrguez in memorializing the death in public records.
