(L.A.) Jeffrey Harmes, 56, Died at a Tiny Home Community

Los Angeles County is reporting the death of a 56-year-old White/Caucasian male that occurred at a Tiny Home community.

The coroner’s office identified the man as Jeffrey Harmes.

Cause of Death: Combined Effects of Cocaine, Fentanyl, Phencyclidine, and Methamphetamine

RIP JEFFREY HARMES (January 21, 1969 – May 6, 2025)

Formal pronouncement of death was made on Tuesday at 6:21 p.m.

Ruling by the deputy medical examiner was published on June 18, presumably after the results of tox screening had come back from the lab.

This is considered an accidental, i.e., unintentional, polydrug overdose.

Jeff Harmes has been homeless for nearly 30 years, but still has roots and a purpose.

He gained national attention in 2015 for his work sprucing up a median in Atwater Village. At the time, which was years before the currently massive drug epidemic in the country, his predominant vice was alcohol abuse.

Harmes was adopted at the age of five months. At some point early in his life, he was apparently given a diagnosis of depression with psychotic features. He had been living on the streets since he was 17.
