Los Angeles County is reporting the death of a 72-year-old Korean male that occurred in a hospital.

The coroner’s office identified the man as Heung Pyo Hong.

Manner of Death: Homicide

Cause of Death A: Bilateral Pneumonia

Cause of Death B: Persistent Vegetative State

Cause of Death C: Sequelae of Blunt-Force Head Trauma

Other Significant Conditions: Hypertensive Heart Disease; Insulin Dependent Diabetes Mellitus

RIP HEUNG PYO HONG (October 1, 1930 – May 17, 2003)

Formal pronouncement of death was made on Saturday at 5:40 p.m.

The decedent was the victim of a carjacking / robbery on September 16, 1995, on Westlake Avenue during which he sustained head trauma due to being assaulted. Incident location was Westalke Avenue, south of Olympic Boulevard, in the 90006 zip code. This is just east of Koreatown proper.

On September 28, 2002, he was transported to the hospital ER from [sic] LAC/USC Medical Center.

He remained in a comatose state until he expired while an inpatient.
