RIP GERARDO AVILA (March 23, 1981 – February 18, 2024)
Formal pronouncement of death was made on Sunday at 8:53 a.m.
Ruling by the deputy medical examiner was published on June 15, presumably after the results of tox screening had come back positive from the lab. This is considered an accidental, i.e., unintentional, drug overdose.
Methamphetamine use is strongly associated with an increased risk of sudden cardiac death and cardiac arrest. A retrospective analysis of over 35 million patients found that meth users have a 27% higher risk of sudden cardiac death. Another study showed that 6.5% of all non-accidental deaths in meth users are due to sudden cardiac death.
Note that there are multiple decedents named “Gerardo Avila” in public records.
