Los Angeles County is reporting the death of a 49-year-old Latino male that occurred in a hospital.

The coroner’s office identified the man as Floriberto Salgado.

Manner of Death: Accident

Cause of Death: Sequelae of Bowel Perforation

Other Significant Conditions: Effects of Fentanyl, Chronic Systolic Heart Failure, Chronic Ethanol Use, Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus, Hypertension, Morbid Obesity

Formal pronouncement of death was made on Wednesday.

This is considered an accidental, i.e., unintentional, drug overdose.

Fentanyl is an opioid that commonly causes marked constipation and, over time, can lead to severe fecal impaction and bowel obstruction.
