(L.A.) Fernando Vazquez, 20, Died on the 5 Freeway

Los Angeles County is reporting the death of a 20-year-old Latino male that occurred on the Golden State (5) Freeway.

The coroner’s office has identified the man as Fernando Vazquez.

Manner of Death: Accident

Cause of Death: Multiple Blunt Trauma

Formal pronouncement of death was made on Saturday at 5:18 a.m.

The decedent died when the car he was in struck a freeway embankment near Boyle Heights.

Officers from the California Highway Patrol were called at 4:41 a.m. to the northbound and Whittier Boulevard where they learned a Honda Accord had hit an embankment and then stuck a tree.

Paramedics pronounced Vazquez dead at the scene. They rushed another individual — who had been ejected from the vehicle — to a hospital in unknown condition.
