Los Angeles County is reporting the death of a 21-year-old Hispanic male that occurred in a hospital.

The coroner’s office identified the young man as Ernesto Topete. Born in L.A. County.

Manner of Death: Homicide

Cause of Death: Gunshot Wound of the Chest

RIP ERNESTO JOEL TOPETE (March 31, 1993 – July 4, 2014)

Formal pronouncement of death was made on Friday at 10:17 p.m.

The decedent was standing out in front of a house when a vehicle drove by and opened fire. He and another man his age were taken to the hospital. Topete was pronounced dead that night. The other victim, Jesus, would survive with a bullet wound to his head before eventually succumbing to that injury six years later.
