(L.A.) Encarnacion Lopez, 29, Died on the 5 Freeway

Los Angeles County is reporting the death of a 29-year-old Latino male that occurred on the 5 Freeway in Boyle Heights.

The coroner’s office identified the man as Encarnacion Lopez.

Manner of Death: Homicide

Cause of Death: Gunshot Wound of the Neck

Formal pronouncement of death was made on Thursday at 4:38 p.m.

The decedent was apparently the victim of a road-rage incident on the 5 Freeway in Boyle Heights.

Two vehicles, a gold Cadillac and another described only as a dark-colored SUV, were chasing each other on the freeway before the Cadillac crashed into an uninvolved third vehicle.

Two men then exited the SUV and opened fire on the Cadillac’s two occupants, striking both the driver and passenger.

Lopez was a passenger of the Cadillac.
