In September 2024, the decedent’s ex-boyfriend Gerardo Contreras was sentenced to 12 years in prison for manslaughter. The LA County District Attorney’s Office had agreed to drop the murder charge in exchange for the perp’s no-contest pleas to voluntary manslaughter and to the use of a flammable or caustic substance in an assault.
He had doused her with a flammable liquid and set her on fire in front of motorists in the North Hollywood area on August 28, 2021.
Both Contreras and Campa were homeless.
