A femoral neck fracture is a serious injury that commonly affects older adults, particularly those with weakened bones due to conditions like osteoporosis. This type of fracture occurs just below the ball of the hip joint and can significantly disrupt blood flow to the femoral head, leading to complications such as avascular necrosis, where the bone tissue dies. Such fractures often result from falls, which are frequent among seniors, and can severely limit mobility. Unfortunately, the consequences are dire; studies show that about 20-30% of elderly patients may die within a year following this injury, primarily due to complications related to immobility and underlying health issues.
