Los Angeles County is reporting the death of a 62-year-old Black male that occurred on a Metro bus near the intersection of Olympic Boulevard and Western Avenue in Koreatown.

RIP DARRYL WINBORN (September 8, 1961 – February 22, 2024)

Formal pronouncement of death was made on Thursday at 11:20 p.m.

The man died almost immediately after being pepper-sprayed on a bus in Koreatown. It is stil unclear as to whether the spray had any connection with his death. An arrest, however, has been made in connection with this case.

Trayvon Isiah Willingham, 30, was booked after he was interviewed by LAPD detectives in the 3300 block of Long Beach Boulevard early Monday morning.

Willingham was aboard the Metro bus at approximately 10:50 p.m. when he became involved in an altercation with the 62-year-old man who would die.

He was being held on $2 million bail.

The Department of Medical Examiner publicly disclosed the CoD ruling on April 9, presumably after the results of tox screening had come back positive for the drug.

It appears the district attorney had rejected the case and had him released on February 28, 2024. Under 849.5PC, he was not arrested but merely detained.
