(L.A.) Benjamin Castaneda, 27, Died in a Hospital

Los Angeles County is reporting the death of a 27-year-old Latino male that occurred in a hospital.

The coroner’s office identified the man as Benjamin Castaneda.

Manner of Death: Homicide

Cause of Death: Gunshot Wound of Torso

RIP BENJAMIN RYAN CASTANEDA (May 8, 1998 – June 3, 2025)

Formal pronouncement of death was made on Tuesday.

The decedent was shot on June 2, at around 11:30 p.m.

LAPD said the shooting happened on Broadway Avenue near Norwalk Boulevard in Whittier.

He drove his 2004 silver Acura out of the southern exit of his apartment complex, made a left turn, heading towards Washington, before the suspect’s vehicle, a champagne or silver colored sedan, pulled alongside his car.

Both vehicles came to a stop. Words were exchanged, followed by someone in the suspect’s vehicle firing a shot, striking Castaneda in the upper torso.

Due to being shot, he became unable to control his vehicle, which collided with the curb, then a large boulder in the grass area near an entrance gate.
