RIP ANGEL DANIEL LOPEZ (April 18, 1999 – July 18, 2025)

Formal pronouncement of death was made on Friday.

Ruling by the deputy medical examiner was published on August 26, presumably after the results of tox screening had come back from the lab.

This is considered an accidental, i.e., unintentional, drug overdose.

Note that there are multiple decedents named “Angel Lopez” in public records.

Methamphetamine is a powerful stimulant that can and does kill, even among people who have used it for years. While many associate meth with chronic health problems, acute meth toxicity can be fatal after just one use or as a result of cumulative damage over time. In Los Angeles County alone, methamphetamine was involved in 20% of all drug-related overdose deaths in 2024. Meth can cause fatal heart attacks, strokes, or dangerously high body temperatures, and its effects are unpredictable—especially due to variations in purity and potency. When a death is ruled “accidental,” it means the person did not intend to die, not that the death was a one-time mistake. Even experienced users are at risk, as the drug’s impact on the heart, brain, and other organs can be sudden and deadly, regardless of how long someone has been using it.
