Ex-Cop Amber Guyger Sentenced to 10 Years for Killing Botham Jean

Amber Guyger, former Dallas police officer who shot and killed a man in his apartment, was sentenced to 10 years on Wednesday.

Guyger was found guilty of murder for killing Botham Jean in his apartment when she entered thinking it was her own. A day after the guilty verdict, the jury decided to sentence her to 10 years.

The jury rejected the “sudden passion” defense. Guyger must serve at least five years before she’s eligible for parole.

He tells Guyger, “I love you just like anyone else and I’m not going to say I hope to rot and die just like my brother did. I personally want the best for you. I wasn’t going to say this in front of my family or anyone but I don’t even want you to go to jail…”
