(L.A.) Alfonso Ramos, 16, Died at a Hospital

Los Angeles County is reporting the death of a 16-year-old Latino male that occurred in a hospital.

The coroner’s office has identified the teenager as Alfonso Ramos.

Manner of Death: Homicide

Cause of Death: Multiple Gunshot Wounds

Formal pronouncement of death was made on Saturday at 5:57 p.m.

The teen ws shot at the Evergreen Park Recreation Center in the 2800 block of East Second Street in Boyle Heights. He was there volunteering when he was approached by two people inside the recreation center. A brief argument ensued, after which one of the suspects pulled out a weapon and shot the teen.

Both suspects fled on foot. They were arrested by August 23. One suspect was 26-year-old Michael Monarrez. The other suspect is a 14-year-old juvenile. Monarrez is also believed to have fatally shot 45-year-old Fermin Ruelas in another incident on August 17.

The killing of Alfonso Ramos happened less than two weeks after another fatal shooting at the same park. An 18-year-old man was fatally shot at around 7:45 p.m. on August 1 after getting into an altercation with two people. It is unclear if the two shootings are related.
