The coroner’s office identified the man as Nicolas Johnson and listed his race/ethnicity as White/Caucasian + Black.

The decedent’s name is indeed spelled Nicolas and not the common spelling Nicholas.
He was driving along a winding stretch of Sepulveda Boulevard near the 405 Freeway when he apparently lost control of his vehicle and crashed into a pole.
