(L.A.) John Blackwell Jr., 57, Died in North Long Beach

Los Angeles County is reporting the death of a 57-year-old Black male that occurred on a street in North Long Beach.

The coroner’s office has identified the man as John Blackwell Jr..

RIP JOHN STANLEY BLACKWELL JR. (July 4, 1965 – January 27, 2023)

Formal pronouncement of death was made on Friday at 7:10 p.m.

The decedent was a motorcyclist who crashed into a vehicle at high speed on Long Beach Boulevard near Ellis Street at around 6:57 p.m.

He was riding a 2014 Kawasaki northbound when he crashed into a 2014 GMC vehicle that had been headed southbound on Long Beach Boulevard before turning left in front of the motorcyclist.

Long Beach PD said the collision launched the motorcyclist from his bike, and the motorcycle continued sliding northbound, striking a parked unoccupied truck in a parking lot on the east side of the street.

The motorcyclist suffered significant injuries to his lower body.

The driver of the 2014 GMC remained on the scene and cooperated with officers during their investigation. He is not believed to have been distracted or driving under the influence at the time of the crash.
