RIP MICHAEL WALTON (1979 – February 18, 2026)
Formal pronouncement of death was made on Wednesday.
Note that the government investigator had initially stated that the decedent passed away at a 9Round kickboxing gym.
The decedent was in fact half Caucasian and identified as Black.
Myocardial bridging is a congenital heart condition where one of the coronary arteries dips down into the heart muscle instead of resting on its surface. Normally, these arteries sit on top of the heart, supplying blood to the muscle. In this condition, a segment of the artery tunnels through the myocardium (heart muscle) itself.
During each heartbeat, the surrounding muscle squeezes that tunneled segment. Most people with this condition never experience symptoms and live normal lives. However, in rare cases—particularly during intense exercise or stress—that compression can temporarily restrict blood flow severely enough to cause arrhythmia or sudden cardiac death.
At the gym, the heart beats faster and harder to meet oxygen demands. This intensifies the muscle contractions around the bridged artery segment. At age 46, the heart has contracted roughly 1.7 billion times, and years of intermittent compression may have caused cumulative damage to the artery wall, potentially leading to turbulence, clot formation, or electrical instability at the exact moment when blood flow was needed most.
The condition often goes undiagnosed because standard cardiac tests may not catch the dynamic compression unless the heart is under stress—precisely the state it was in during the above fatal event.
