The coroner’s office identified the man as Avery Newman. Born in L.A. County.

Cause of Death: Multiple Gunshot Wounds

RIP AVERY DEON NEWMAN (July 30, 1989 – January 11, 2026)

Formal pronouncement of death was made on Sunday night.

The decedent was shot, along with four other men, while they were waiting for food outside a fried chicken restasurant in the Manchester Square area of South L.A. The other victims survived.
