Los Angeles County is reporting the death of a 55-year-old Latino male that occurred in an underground sewer tunnel.

The coroner’s office identified the man as Hugo Lavin Diaz.

Manner of Death: Accident

Cause of Death: Effects of Methamphetamine

RIP HUGO A. LAVIN DIAZ (June 1970 – January 3, 2026)

Formal pronouncement of death was made on Saturday.

The decedent was one of three decomposing bodies found inside a tunnel under the 8500 block of Olive Street.
