(L.A.) Edward Cruz, 62, Died at a Residence

Case Number: 2025-17703

Los Angeles County is reporting the death of a 62-year-old Latino male that occurred at his residence.

The coroner’s office identified the man as Edward Cruz.

Manner of Death: Natural

Cause of Death A: Peritonitis

Cause of Death B: Ruptured Peptic Ulcer

RIP EDWARD CRUZ (1963 – November 11, 2025)

Formal pronouncement of death was made on Tuesday.

A ruptured peptic ulcer occurs when a sore in the stomach or duodenum lining erodes through the full thickness of the tissue, creating a hole. The rupture allows gastric contents, including acid and bacteria, to spill into the peritoneal cavity.

The leaked contents trigger chemical peritonitis initially from acid irritation, followed by bacterial infection leading to severe inflammation of the peritoneal lining. This progresses to sepsis and multi-organ failure if not surgically repaired promptly. Mortality can reach 10-30% without intervention, higher in elderly patients.
