Formal pronouncement of death was made on Tuesday.
Ruling by the deputy medical examiner was published on October 2, presumably after the results of tox screening had come back from the lab. This is considered an accidental, i.e., unintentional, polydrug overdose.
Combining depressants (like oxycodone) and stimulants (like amphetamine) is extremely dangerous. Oxycodone slows breathing and heart rate, while amphetamine speeds them up. This creates conflicting signals in the body, increasing the risk of overdose, cardiac arrest, or respiratory failure. Mitragynine (kratom) can act as both a stimulant and a depressant, further complicating the effects.
