(L.A.) Jessica McLaughlin, 24, Died in a Hospital

Los Angeles County is reporting the death of a 24-year-old White/Caucasian female that occurred in a hospital.

The coroner’s office identified the young woman as Jessica McLaughlin.

Manner of Death: Homicide

Cause of Death A: Anoxic Encephalopathy

Cause of Death B: Cardiopulmonary Arrest Status Post Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation

Cause of Death C: Exacerbation of Asthma

Formal pronouncement of brain death was made on June 28, 2025 (Saturday). She was kept alive until July 2.

The decedent was working her shift at a 7-Eleven on June 24 when she became involved in a physical fight with her manager, a female, at around 2:15 p.m.

Though asthma is a natural disease, acute exacerbations may be triggered by outside stressors, including harmful or criminal activities such as assaults. In these instances, the manner of death is appropriately certified as homicide.

Incident location was 5786 Melrose Avenue, by Rossmore Avenue / Vine Street, in the same strip mall as Mario’s Peruvian restaurant.
