Los Angeles County is reporting the death of a 40-year-old male.

The coroner’s office has identified the man as Virgo Datu and listed his race/ethnicity as Latino [sic].

Manner of Death: Accident

Cause of Death: Blunt-Force Trauma

Formal pronouncement of death was made on Saturday.

The decedent, actually of Filipino descent, was an experienced cyclist who was fatally injured in a crash while with the Montrose group ride —- a pro-level route in Pasadena known to local bike-riding enthusiasts. A wheel of his bike got caught in a rut and he ended up smashing against a light post. He was taken to a hospital where he later died.
