RIP JAYDEN FIGUEROA (January 19, 2011 — May 22, 2025)

Formal pronouncement of death was made on Thursday.

Ruling by the deputy medical examiner was published on July 11. This is considered an accident because there was no intent to die or to kill.

Acute water intoxication happens when someone drinks so much water in a short time that the kidneys cannot get rid of it fast enough. This causes the amount of sodium in the blood to drop to a dangerously low level.

Electrolytes are tiny particles, like sodium, that help control how much water is inside and outside the body’s cells. When someone drinks way too much water, these electrolytes get diluted, which drops to a dangerously low level — a condition called hyponatremia.

Sodium is important because it helps keep water balanced between the inside and outside of cells. If sodium gets too low, water moves into the cells, making them swell. This swelling can cause serious problems, especially in the brain, and is one of the main reasons why drinking too much water can be deadly.
