(L.A.) Semaj Coney, 27, Died at Venice Beach

Los Angeles County is reporting the death of a 27-year-old Black male that occurred on a beach.
The coroner’s office has identified the man as Semaj Coney.
Height: 6 feet / Weight: 170 pounds
Manner of Death: Accident
Cause of Death: Fentanyl and Acetyl Fentanyl Toxicity

Formal pronouncement of death was made on Wednesday at 9:01 a.m.
Ruling by the deputy medical examiner was published on June 17, presumably after the results of tox screening had come back from the lab. This is considered an accidental, i.e., unintentional, drug overdose.
The decedent was found lifeless at a public restroom in Venice Beach.

Dead Body Found: Unresponsive Man Discovered at Venice Beach Restrooms, Cause Under Investigation
VENICE BEACH — On Wednesday morning, April 23, 2025, at approximately 9:15 a.m., Los Angeles Fire Department paramedics and LAPD officers responded to reports of an unresponsive man lying near the public restrooms along Ocean Front Walk.
First responders assessed the individual and determined he was deceased at the scene. LAPD officers erected a privacy tent around the body as standard protocol and awaited the arrival of the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner-Coroner.
Roughly ninety minutes later, coroner personnel arrived to examine and transport the body. The official cause of death has not yet been released. Authorities have not confirmed whether foul play or overdose is suspected.
