GHB, or gamma-hydroxybutyric acid, is a central nervous system depressant that is also known as a “club drug” or “date rape drug” due to its misuse in recreational settings.
While GHB has some legitimate medical uses, such as treating narcolepsy under the brand name Xyrem, it is illegal to possess, produce, or distribute for recreational use in many countries.
Overdosing on GHB can cause a loss of consciousness and coma.
