RIP LUCY-BLEU KNIGHT (December 6, 1998 – July 19, 2024)

Formal pronouncement of death was made on Friday at 3:00 p.m.

The decedent was the stepdaughter of Guns N’ Roses guitarist Slash.

In the medical examiner’s parlance, “private residence” indicates it was not her own home.

Hydrogen sulfide (H2S) suicide, often referred to as “detergent suicide,” emerged as a concerning method in Japan in 2007 and has since spread globally. This method involves mixing common household chemicals to produce toxic H2S gas in enclosed spaces. The practice gained traction through online instructions, leading to an increase in cases, particularly among young adult males.

H2S is extremely toxic, acting similarly to cyanide by inhibiting cellular respiration. Its colorless nature and distinctive odor make it particularly dangerous for first responders and bystanders. The gas can cause rapid unconsciousness and death at high concentrations.

Public health officials are concerned about underreporting and the risk to emergency personnel. Prevention efforts focus on recognizing warning signs, using proper protective equipment, and restricting access to information about the method. The rise of H2S suicides represents a significant challenge, requiring increased awareness and precautions to protect both those at risk of suicide and the wider community.
