(L.A.) Maurice Hammonds, 73, Died in a Nursing Home

Los Angeles County is reporting the death of a 73-year-old Black male that occurred in a nursing home.

The coroner’s office has identified the man as Maurice Hammonds.

Manner of Death: Natural

Cause of Death A: Cardiopulmonary Arrest

Cause of Death B: Acute Myeloblastic Leukemia

Other Significant Conditions: Malignant Neoplasm of Prostate, Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia with Lower Urinary Tract Infection

Formal pronouncement of death was made on Wednesday at 6:34 p.m.

The Department of Medical Examiner publicly disclosed the CoD ruling on July 12.

Cardiopulmonary arrest is a broader term that encompasses both cardiac and respiratory failure. It involves cessation of both heart function and breathing. It can be initiated by either cardiac or respiratory failure.

Acute myeloblastic leukemia is a rapidly progressing cancer of the blood and bone marrow.
