Los Angeles County is reporting the death of a male that occurred at a hospital.

The coroner’s office has identified the infant boy as Baby Boy Conley-Bennett.

Cause of Death: Complications of Prematurity

Other Significant Condition: Maternal Group B Streptococcus Colonization

Formal pronouncement of death was made on Saturday at 4:00 p.m.

The Department of Medical Examiner publicly disclosed the CoD ruling on September 9.

Group B Streptococcus (GBS) colonization is relatively common among pregnant women. GBS colonizes the genital and gastrointestinal tracts of 10-30% of pregnant women.

Approximately 50% of colonized women will transmit GBS to their newborns during labor and delivery.
