(L.A.) Ruben Barrera, 18, Died From a Gunshot

Los Angeles County is reporting the death of an 18-year-old male that occurred on a sidewalk in Long Beach.

The coroner’s office has identified the man as Ruben Barrera and provided his race/ethnicity label as White/Caucasian.

Manner of Death: Homicide

Cause of Death: Gunshot Wound of the Chest

Incident Location: 5400 block of Elm Avenue

The suspect in the shooting, Albert Jesse Rodriguez, was taken into custody in Baja California, Mexico, in March 2021 and charged with murder. In March 2024, he was sentenced to 15 years in state prison after pleading no contest to voluntary manslaughter.
