(L.A.) Gardiel Solorio, 26, Died in a Parking Lot

Los Angeles County is reporting the death of a 26-year-old Hispanic male that occurred in a parking lot.

The coroner’s office identified the man as Gardiel Solorio.

Manner of Death: Homicide

Cause of Death: Gunshot Wounds of the Chest and Abdomen

RIP GARDIEL SOLORIO (November 21, 1995 – August 8, 2022)

Formal pronouncement of death was made on Monday at 3:51 p.m.

The decedent was a Monterey Park Police Department rookie officer who was off-duty in his Dodge Charger when he was targeted at the Downey Landing shopping center parking lot by suspects looking for a vehicle to steal.

Carlos Daniel Delcid approached Solorio with a handgun and demanded the vehicle. When Solorio shifted into reverse to escape, Delcid fired five close-range shots through the window.

Solorio had graduated from the LASD Academy just weeks prior to the shooting.

In 2026, Delcid guilty of first-degree murder, attempted carjacking, robbery, shooting at an occupied vehicle, and possession of a firearm by a felon. He was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole.

Life Without the Possibility of Parole (LWOP) in California means the offender will never be released and will die in prison.
