Adults with intestinal malrotation often experience chronic, nonspecific gastrointestinal symptoms such as crampy abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, and bloating. These symptoms can persist for years and may be severe enough to impact daily life and quality of life.
Chronic pain is a well-known risk factor for self-medication with substances, including prescription opioids and illicit drugs, as individuals seek relief from persistent discomfort.
