(L.A.) Shakiya Davis, 47, Died at a Residence

Los Angeles County is reporting the death of a 47-year-old Black female that occurred at a residence.

The coroner’s office has identified the woman as Shakiya Davis.

Manner of Death: Natural

Cause of Death: Covid-19

Other Significant Conditions: Empyema, Liver Cirrhosis (Etiology Unknown)

Formal pronouncement of death was made on Sunday at 11:50 p.m.

Empyema is a condition in which pus gathers in the area between the lungs and the inner surface of the chest wall. This area is known as the pleural space. Pus is a fluid that’s filled with immune cells, dead cells, and bacteria. Pus in the pleural space can’t be coughed out. Instead, it needs to be drained by a needle or surgery.

Empyema usually develops after pneumonia, which is an infection of the lung tissue.
