In 1986, the L.A. Times reported that Denyse Siembieda, 29, of Saugus was driving a vehicle that broadsided another car in Valencia. Karen Heilman, a 37-year-old woman who helped launch a campaign in the Santa Clarita Valley to dissuade teenagers from driving drunk, was in the other vehicle and died from the injuries she sustained. Siembieda was taken to a hospital in stable condition. Initial reports indicated that no alcohol was involved.
