The coroner’s office has identified the man as Johnny Depina.

Born in Kern County. Mother’s maiden name is Mathis.

Manner of Death: Accident

Cause of Death A: Acute Pneumonia with ARDS

Cause of Death B: Thermal Burns and Inhalational Injuries

Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome (ARDS) is commonly associated with severe pneumonia in burn patients, particularly when inhalation injuries are present. Burn-related systemic inflammation contributes to pulmonary dysfunction and predisposes patients to infectious complications.

Studies have found that pneumonia occurs in up to 22.9% of burn patients, with inhalation injuries being a major risk factor for infection.
