(L.A.) Camille Brewster Hickman, a Baby, Died in a Parking Lot

Los Angeles County is reporting the death of a Black female that occurred in a parking lot.

The coroner’s office identified the infant girl as Camille Brewster Hickman.

Manner of Death: Homicide

Cause of Death: Probable Asphyxia

Formal pronouncement of death was made on Thursday at 2:30 a.m.

The decedent was about five weeks old.

She and her seven-year-old sister were harmed by their mother who in 2026 would be determined to have been insane at the time of the killings.

TIMELINE

October 18, 2017: Surveillance cameras at a local market captured the final footage of Jasmine Hickman walking down the sidewalk with her two children during the night.

October 19, 2017: At around 2:30 a.m., authorities discovered Hickman and her daughters unresponsive in a South LA parking lot. Her 38-day-old newborn, Camille, was pronounced dead at the scene.

October 20, 2017: Her 7-year-old daughter, Jaliya, passed away at the hospital from organ failure resulting from the suffocation.

June 16, 2026: Los Angeles County Superior Court Judge Robert Harrison ruled that Hickman was insane during the commission of the crimes, following an agreement between the prosecution and defense based on evaluations by two independent doctors.
