Los Angeles County is reporting the death of a 59-year-old Asian female in Burbank.

The coroner’s office identified the woman as Arti Varma.

Manner of Death: Homicide

Cause of Death: Multiple Stab Wounds

RIP ARTI VARMA (February 28, 1967 – April 20, 2026)

Formal pronouncement of death was made on Monday morning.

The decedent was a first-grade teacher of Indian origin. She and her 25-year-old daughter were attacked in their home while they were asleep.

Sergio Fraire, 30, has been arrested for this crime and for the attempted murder of the younger woman.
