(L.A.) Enrique Hernandez, 29, Died at Men’s Central Jail

Los Angeles County is reporting the death of a 29-year-old Latino male that occurred in downtown L.A.

The coroner’s office identified the man as Enrique Hernandez.

STATUS: The decedent’s body is ready to be released. Ruling by the deputy medical examiner is deferred pending additional investigation.

Manner and cause of death will be added to this page when it becomes available.

If the DME has ordered toxicological screening, the next public update may take six to nine months.

RIP ENRIQUE HERNANDEZ (June 29, 1996 – April 4, 2026)

Formal pronouncement of death was made on Saturday.

The decedent was found inside his cell at Men’s Central Jail, which is located at 441 Bauchet Street, Los Angeles, CA 90012.

He had been arrested in Long Beach for carjacking and murder on January 19, 2021. He was convicted by a jury on November 20, 2025, and just earlier this month had been scheduled to be sent to state prison.

This is LASD’s 13th in-custody death for the year.
